Ben conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra in two Symphonic Cinema performances of Stravinsky The Firebird at the Barbican Centre on 29 April. These performances mark Ben's first public performances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London.
Symphonic Cinema is an innovative approach to classical music performance where the stories of masterpieces like The Firebird are brought to life with film, with a live orchestral performance. The film is synchronised in real-time to the performance, as director Lucas van Woerkum follows the conductor and orchestra's interpretation, matching tempi and dynamics. The concerts are part of the Barbican Centre’s Sound Unbound festival, which celebrates artists and composers pushing the boundaries of what classical music means today.
Ben looks forward to conducting the orchestra in a main season concert at the Barbican on 7 November.
